Do you create lists? Many years ago, my sister Carolyn shared with me that creating a list, and then crossing items completed off that list, can bring great satisfaction. My sister JoAnn is incredibly organized, so I can only imagine she is a list maker too.
How about a list containing places you want to go when the COVID-19 pandemic is over?
- I create grocery lists. I’ve found that when I get to the grocery store, I will NEVER remember everything I need. But if I write it down the MINUTE I think of it, it will get purchased.
- I create to-do lists, things that need done around the house. These are often THINGS I hope my husband will see on the list, and offer to do. But it also keeps me on track too – I would much rather work on a quilt than run the vacuum.
- My mother-in-law taught me to create “holiday dinner lists”. I really miss her; she left us for her heavenly home in 2014. She LOVED providing her family with fabulous Easter and Christmas dinners. And she ALWAYS had a list containing the menu items, along with oven temperatures and times. I do this for my own family holiday dinners today.
- As my mind is always planning new sewing, quilting and embroidery projects, I keep a running list of fabric, notions, and such. I may not get to that project for years, YES, you read that correctly. But I will be ready!
- I started this blog and website – SKYQUILTER.COM – in 2019. I am having the MOST fun with it. But I still don’t really have a grander purpose for it yet, other than my amusement, and hopefully yours… I do have a list of blog posts I want to do.
So this evening, lying in my bathtub, with lavender bubble bath, a candle, and a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, I was thinking of another LIST I need to create. This list will contain the places I want to go when the COVID-19 pandemic has eased. I say ‘eased’ because I am hearing we will be dealing with this for months, with it most likely returning again next winter.
Immediately, I knew these would need to be on MY list… I’m really not very extravagant…
- I long to stroll through an open air flea market. Rogers is call me.
- I miss going to antique malls and consignment stores.
- Yard sale anyone?
- Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I need to see flowers!
- An Art Museum. Cleveland? Pittsburgh? Columbus?
- Happy Days Cafe in South Charleston, West Virginia. They have the best hotdogs! Chile, slaw, onion and mustard…! The last time I was there, they also had some great antique stores.
- Dee Jay’s in Weirton, West Virginia. Not only do they have the ABSOLUTE best ribs, it is a convenient place for me to have dinner with my sisters!
- Cleveland Indians Baseball, my American League favorite, and Pittsburgh Pirate Baseball, my National League favorite. What will happen to baseball?
- Little League?
- Senior Proms?
- Paducah, Kentucky was on my bucket list for this summer. I think every quilter ought to visit at least once!
- Noah’s Ark in Williamstown, Kentucky, also on my bucket list. My cousin Cindy is going to meet me there!
- The Peoli Produce Auction. Our new home has no garden (yet!). This summer, I will need fresh vegetables to can. And Cindy and Kate are planning to visit for a canning lesson!
- FLORIDA! My son & daughter-in-law live there, as does my MOM!
So what is on your list of things to do? If you have not made one, DO IT! We all need to plan happy and pleasurable things to do… while we can…
STAY HEALTHY!
Love your list of things to do when we can get out. I think I’ll share this with the kids. Will be nice to see what they put on their list.
I’ll bet they are missing things too!
Let’s find JOY today? That is my granddaughters name that lives with me. She brings me so much joy every day.
Joy is a lucky young lady!
